It was a snapshot of a day in the life of a Manx village.

In Millennium year, the Southern Photographic Society spent a day in Port St Mary capturing on 35mm film as many businesses, events and people as they could within 24 hours.

The images they took on that day in May 1979 provide a remarkable record of how life in the village has changed.

Now almost 40 years on, 14 professional and amateur photographers will converge on the port to capture a typical day in Port St Mary.

On Friday next week (July 20), they will be visiting shops, businesses, cafes, restaurants, churches, pubs and local clubs to record life in the village in 2018.

Big day

Villagers who are having a birthday, getting married or celebrating any special occasion on that day are being invited to get in contact so photos can be taken of their big day.

And if you miss the photographer, you are invited to send in pictures of your own that show you going about your everyday activities on the day. You can email your photos to [email protected]

Alternatively you can upload them to Instagram using the hashtag #PortStMary.
