A casualty was transferred to a specialist UK hospital following a crash in Ballasalla on Thursday morning.

The incident happened at Church Bends on Malew Road at 11.45am, leading to a stretch of road being closed between Cross Four Ways and Malew Street while emergency services attended the scene.

The critical care team from the Great North Air Ambulance Service (GNAAS) was alerted at 12.14pm following reports of the road traffic collision.

A GNAAS spokesperson said: ‘We had a paramedic and doctor on board our aircraft and they arrived on scene at 12.47pm.

‘Our team worked alongside the Isle of Man Ambulance Service to assess and treat a patient before airlifting them to a specialist hospital in England for further treatment.’

The Isle of Man Constabulary is now appealing for information relating to the incident.

Officers are asking anyone who was in the area at the time, or who witnessed the crash, to come forward.

A spokesperson for the Isle of Man Constabulary said: ‘The incident involved a motorcycle rider and a pillion passenger. Officers were supported at the scene by partner agencies and the injured rider and pillion received immediate care at the scene.

‘Police are appealing to anyone who was in the area at the time, who has not yet spoken with officers and may have witnessed the collision, observed the rider prior to the incident, or has dashcam footage that may assist our investigation, to contact the Roads Policing Unit through Police Headquarters on 631212, quoting reference 97/5690/26.

‘Information can also be provided anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.’
