An international classical duo will be the first guest artists of a music society, based in the north of the island later this month.

The classical Italian piano duo Colli and Rubini will perform for the Ramsey Music Society at the Ramsey Grammar School hall, West Building, on Monday, January 13, from 7.30pm.

Featuring the pianists Martina Colli and Rosella Rubini, the two musicians create music that has been described as classical jazz fusion.

They have been performing together since 2010, and recently released a celebrated album, ’Riding Americas’, which takes three pieces of classical music, written by American composers, and reworks them to be played with ’four hands’, or by two pianists in a duet.

The album features reworked versions of ’An American in Paris’ by George Gershwin, ’Appalachian Spring’ by Aaron Copland and four pieces of music from the ballet ’Estancia’, written by Alberto Ginastera.

The duo will perform all three pieces, along with music written by jazz pianist Duke Ellington and the modern composer Silvia Colasanti.

Martina and Rosella have also released two other albums, both in 2012, with their first album, ’Tacitus’, featuring piano versions of the music of Gino Marinuzzi Jr, closely followed by ’The Voyage’, a well-received release that was selected for the Grammy awards.

Tickets for the Colli and Rubini concert are £12, with children and students free, available either on the door or by contacting the Ramsey Music Society by email at [email protected]

Both the concert and society are supported by the Isle of Man Arts Council.
