A Douglas motorist has been fined £600 for careless driving outside the Sea Terminal.

Sixty-four-year-old Anthony Mark Unsworth, of Westmoreland Road, also had his licence endorsed with six penalty points.

Prosecuting advocate Harry Bellis told the court that, on January 16, a police vehicle stopped at the roundabout at Peveril Square in Douglas to allow other vehicles to exit.

Unsworth was seen driving his Renault Trafic off the roundabout into the opposite carriageway, in contravention of ‘keep left’ bollards.

In court, Unsworth said he was a delivery driver and had always previously been directed to go that way.

He said he saw the police and assumed the road was blocked.

Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood also ordered prosecution costs of £50.
