A Peel man has been put on probation for six months after starting drinking at 7am and ending up being arrested.
Twenty-two-year-old Declyn Lee Goldie admitted being drunk and disorderly, threatening behaviour, and resisting arrest.
Prosecuting advocate Harry Bellis told the court that Goldie had initially been verbally abusive to a female, outside the Marine pub, on Shore Road in Peel, at 9.10pm, on August 28.
This prompted a male to intervene, but Goldie then turned his attention to him.
He was said to have tried to get into the male’s car and told him: ‘You’re a c***. I’m going to punch your head in.’
Members of the public restrained the defendant and moved him along.
Police were called and located him at Market Place.
Goldie, of Poortown, claimed he hadn’t done anything wrong, and became aggressive and obstructive.
He then launched a tirade of abuse at police officers.
Officers arrested him, but he pulled away and dropped to the ground, kicking out to avoid being put in the police van.
When interviewed later, Goldie said he couldn’t remember anything until he woke up in a cell.
He told probation that he had started drinking at 7am, and had been struggling with his mental health.
Goldie said he had turned to alcohol, after previously having been sober for two years, but had now self-referred to Motiv8.
Defence advocate Stephen Wood said the incident had amounted to aggressive posturing and ‘effing and jeffing’.
Mr Wood said that Goldie, when shown the police body-worn camera footage, had been too embarrassed to finish watching it.
Magistrates also ordered £125 prosecution costs, which will be paid at a rate of £10 per week, deducted from benefits.
