Driving after using cocaine has cost a Ramsey motorist a two-year ban from the roads.
Thirty-year-old Richard Ewan Callow was also put on probation for a year.
He pleaded guilty to driving under the influence of benzoylecgonine, a metabolite of cocaine, having no valid licence, having no tax, possessing cannabis and two counts of possessing cocaine.
The court heard that police stopped Callow while he was driving a Seat Leon on James Road in Castletown on March 25.
An initial drug wipe test proved positive for cocaine and cannabis.
A blood test later produced a reading of 124 for benzoylecgonine, which has a legal limit of 50, while readings for cocaine and cannabis were below their respective limits.
Callow also had no valid driving licence or tax.
When he was arrested, a wrap of cocaine weighing 0.6 grams was found in his underwear.
A search of a property where he was living in Castletown at the time also found 2.1 grams of cannabis.
On May 29, Callow was detained for a search in Market Square in Ramsey.
He was taken to Ramsey Police Station, where a wrap containing white powder fell out of his underwear.
This was later confirmed as one gram of cocaine.
A probation report said Callow’s life had spiralled out of control following a sudden family bereavement.
The report said Callow had recently become a father, which he described as a ‘lightbulb moment for him’.
A recommendation was made for supervision, with the report saying that the defendant had previously completed a supervision order.
Defence advocate David Clegg asked the court to follow the recommendation and said Callow had gone through a bad patch, but now wished to get his life in order.
‘This was not someone engaged in drugs for the fun of it, it was a coping mechanism,’ said the advocate.
Callow, of Albert Street, was also ordered to take an extended driving test after his ban ends and to pay £250 prosecution costs.
