A 27-year-old woman has been fined £100 for being found drunk in a public place.

Shannon Halsall admitted the offence and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs by magistrates.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that police were on patrol outside 1886 bar in Regent Street in Douglas on April 18 at 1am.

Halsall, who lives at Barrule Road, Willaston, was said to have been involved in an altercation with a male and was flailing her arms around.

Door staff at 1886 bar said that Halsall had been the aggressor in the altercation and was described as unsteady on her feet.

Police asked her to leave the area numerous times but she kept returning, with her behaviour escalating.

Halsall was given a final warning to leave but again failed to do so, and was subsequently arrested.

Defence advocate Joseph Burrows said: ‘Ms Halsall is very remorseful to be before the court. She has not been before the court for some time.

‘On the night in question, her friends convinced her to come out, she had not drunk for six months and it was a case of too much too soon.’

Mr Burrows said that Halsall was suffering from anxiety and depression and asked for credit to be given for her guilty plea.

‘She feels like she is making progress but has had this blip,’ said the advocate.

Magistrates ordered her to pay the fine and costs at a rate of £10 per week, deducted from benefits.
