A teenage R plate driver who hit a woman outside a pub has been fined £350 for careless driving.
Sophie Corlett also had her R plate period extended by six months and four penalty points put on her licence.
Prosecuting advocate Harry Bellis told magistrates that the complainant in the case was outside Quids Inn on Douglas Promenade on December 14, walking to a taxi.
A grey BMW, driven by Corlett, reversed and hit her on the ankle.
Police arrived and the defendant admitted she had been driving, and the collision.
Mr Bellis said that there was CCTV footage of the incident.
The court heard that the 18-year-old had no previous convictions.
Her R plate period was due to end on August 6, but will now extend six months beyond that.
Corlett, of School Road in Onchan, was represented in court by advocate Paul Rodgers.
Mr Rodgers said the incident occurred in the small side road next to the pub, and his client had been driving in from the promenade, dropping a friend off.
‘Unfortunately, she failed to notice the lady,’ said the advocate.
Mr Rodgers said that Corlett had done everything right after the accident, staying at the scene and speaking to the police.
He said that it was unclear why it had taken so long to come to court and why the defendant had not been interviewed by police.
Mr Rodgers asked the magistrates not to impose six points, which would result in a ban for an R plate driver.
He said that Corlett used her car for work and the accident had only involved a short movement from a standing start, of around 5 to 10 metres.
Magistrates chair Julian Ashcroft told Corlett: ‘As a new driver you need to be extra careful.’
The defendant must also pay £50 prosecution costs and will pay at a rate of £50 per week.
