A Douglas teenager who kicked a police officer twice has been handed a suspended sentence.

Kyle Reeder admitted the offence, as well as being drunk and disorderly and threatening behaviour.

Magistrates also ordered the 19-year-old to pay £300 prosecution costs.

Prosecuting advocate Annie Bannister told the court that police were driving past the Outback on March 1, in the early hours, when they saw Reeder putting his hands on a moving vehicle.

Officers spoke to him and he was described as verbally aggressive.

Reeder was arrested, but tried to push the police away, insulting one officer.

He then kicked an officer on the shin twice.

On April 25, at 2.24am, Reeder was again outside the Outback, involved in an altercation with a group.

The incident moved onto John Street and police arrived, seeing Reeder swinging his hands and shouting.

Officers spoke to him and described the teenager as unsteady on his feet, slurring his words, and smelling of alcohol, which resulted in him being arrested.

Reeder was released from custody that same day, but later, at 1.30pm, he was involved in yet another incident, outside Peveril Road, where he lives.

He was shouting at another male who was being arrested.

Reeder then shouted and swore at the other man, the court heard.

Children were playing in the area at the time and police arrested Reeder.

Defence advocate Paul Glover said his client had been in custody since July 20 and had no source of income prior to going into custody.

Mr Glover said that no injury had been caused by the kicks and that Reeder was in time-served territory.

Magistrates sentenced the teenager to 20 weeks’ custody, suspended for two years.

He’ll pay the costs at a rate of £10 per week.
