A 37-year-old woman has been fined £600 after admitting disorderly behaviour at the Mitre in Ramsey.

Katie Birchall pushed a woman and grabbed her by the hair during a row at the pub.

Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood also ordered her to pay £50 prosecution costs.

A second defendant, Kerry Birchall, aged 47, pleaded not guilty to the same charge and a pre-trial review for her has been set for September 22.

Prosecuting advocate Annie Bannister told the court that the two women were former partners, and were at the Mitre on March 29, at 12.50am.

They argued and Kerry Birchall was alleged to have bitten Katie Birchall on the face.

Katie was then said to have pushed Kerry to the floor.

After that, they resumed talking, but Katie was then said to have grabbed Kerry by the hair.

Staff separated them and Katie was said to have called the police, reporting that she had been assaulted.

CCTV footage was reviewed by police and both women were arrested.

Kerry Birchall, of Ballagarey Road, Glen Vine, was represented in court by advocate Paul Glover.

Advocate Kaitlyn Shimmin appeared for Katie Birchall, who lives at Derby Square, Douglas.

Ms Shimmin said that her client had pleaded guilty at the first opportunity and had no previous convictions.

The advocate said that her defendant didn’t often drink, and had not drunk since the incident.

‘She is embarrassed to be in front of the court, but has taken responsibility for her actions, and wishes to apologise to the court,’ said Ms Shimmin.

The Deputy High Bailiff said: ‘This is obviously unacceptable behaviour to take place on licensed premises, involving pushing and grabbing hair.

‘Not insignificant behaviour, and clearly under the influence of alcohol.’

Katie Birchall agreed to pay her fine and costs at a rate of £50 per month.
