A 58-year-old Douglas man has been charged with making nuisance calls to emergency services.

Jonathan Richard Fletcher refused to enter a plea, claiming there was ‘no such thing as the Communications Act’, so a not guilty plea was recorded on his behalf.

Appearing before magistrates via video link from the prison, Fletcher said: ‘You can record what you want. I suggest you recuse yourselves forthwith. Adjourn it forever and leave me here. This is where I intend to stay. You can’t force me to attend court.’

Fletcher, of Mona Street, is already due to face a trial on August 28 for a previous similar allegation which he’s denied, and the latest charge has been adjourned to the same date.

He was remanded.
