Douglas will remember those who have served in conflicts around the world at its annual Remembrance Sunday service next month.
The service, organised by Douglas City Council, will take place on Sunday, November 8, and will give the community an opportunity to pay tribute to members of the armed forces, past and present.
A parade will assemble at Market Hill at 9.15am before setting off at 9.20am. It will travel via Duke Street, Strand Street, Castle Street, Marina Road and Church Road Marina to St Thomas’ Church, entering via Finch Road.
The church service will begin at 10am and is expected to finish at approximately 10.40am.
Those attending will then have time to parade to the War Memorial ahead of the two minutes’ silence at 11am, followed by the laying of wreaths.
Organisations wishing to be included on the wreath-laying list are asked to email [email protected].
The parade will be led by Douglas Town Band, Standard Bearers, military personnel and the Mayor of Douglas, Councillor Steven Crellin JP.
Mr Crellin commented: ‘Remembrance Sunday is an important day to come together as a community and pause to remember the extraordinary sacrifices made by those who served their country and particularly those who never returned home.
‘As we stand together, we will remember not only those from our own island and the British Isles, but all those around the world who have lost their lives or been affected by conflict.’
Roads immediately surrounding St Thomas’ Church will close between 9.30am and 11am, while Church Road Marina and Harris Promenade will be closed from 10.30am until noon.
A further ceremony will take place at the War Memorial on Armistice Day (Wednesday, November 11) to commemorate those killed or injured in wars.
Harris Promenade will be closed from 10.45am to 11.30am to allow the short ceremony to take place.
