New Castletown Road will close to through traffic between Douglas and Santon for up to four evenings while essential drainage maintenance is carried out on Richmond Hill.

The Department of Infrastructure will undertake the work between Fort North roundabout in Douglas and Ballacutchell Road in Santon from Monday, October 26 to Thursday, October 29.

The closures will be in place between 6.30pm and 10.30pm, with the work expected to be completed within four evenings or sooner.

The maintenance will involve jetting roadside beanie kerbs and clearing gullies to improve drainage ahead of winter.

The DoI said the road will be closed during the work because of the risk of stones being expelled into the carriageway at force.

A signed diversion will be in place via Kewaigue, Old Castletown Road and Oatlands Road in Santon, while businesses in and around Newtown in Santon will remain accessible from Douglas using the diversion route.

A spokesperson from the DoI commented: ‘Access for residents will be maintained, although some delays may be experienced.

‘Scheduled bus services will be marshalled through the works, and residents and businesses in the immediate vicinity of these works will receive a letter with further details of the access arrangements.’

In a separate closure on Sunday, October 25, the connection between Peel Road and Main Road in Union Mills is set to be shut from 8am to 5pm.

The closure begins just after the roundabout outside Kirk Braddan Church, and continues further up the road towards Snugborough Trading Estate.

This is to allow ABC Tree Surgery to undertake tree felling works in the area, with the closure being limited to just one day.
