The Department of Infrastructure has asked motorsits to not use Ballakermeen School grounds as a short cut while works continue on Quarterbridge Road.

A DoI statement said: ’We have been informed that while Quarterbridge Road is one way due to roadworks, an increasing number of motorists are using Ballakermeen School Drive as a cut through, both at commuter times and also throughout the school day.

’We would urge people not to as the increased traffic through the site causes congestion at the start, and end of the school day, it also leads to potential dangers for pupils.

’This is no a through road and is designed for accessing the school by legitimate users only.’

Works are set to continue at Quarterbridge Road for the next few weeks.

The section between the roundabouts and Alexander Drive is currently closed to south-bound traffic while work takes place on pavements.

Following completion of this phase the contractors will complete the final section of new footways in the central section of Quarterbridge Road (vicinity of Selborne Drive junction) immediately afterwards.

Resurfacing of the road itself will be undertaken in March and will be the subject of a further update giving details of the traffic arrangements that will be put in place.
