A 23-year-old Douglas man has been fined £120 for being drunk and incapable.

Aaron John Lilley asked the court to also issue an alcohol ban as he said this would assist him.

Deputy High Bailiff James Brooks banned him from licensed premises, and buying or being sold alcohol for six months.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court police were called to Sam Webb’s pub on Castle Street in Douglas on January 30 at 6pm.

Staff said that Lilley, who lives at Circular Road, was refusing to leave after being asked to due to his intoxication. Officers found him sitting outside on a bench.

The pub did not want to press charges so he was asked by police to just leave the area.

However, despite being given warnings, Lilley refused to leave and ended up being arrested.

Defence advocate Sara-Jayne Dodge said: ’Mr Lilley is going through a difficult time. He accepts he has difficulties with alcohol.

’He has self-referred to Motiv8.

’We would submit he is doing all he can to assist himself. He is ashamed and doesn’t want this to become a pattern of behaviour.

’Mr Lilley was foolish but there is no suggestion he was aggressive or rude.’

Ms Dodge said that her client would like to request a licensing ban for a minimum of six months.

Deputy High Bailiff Mr Brooks asked Lilley if he was certain, as he said he did not want to set him up to fail, and pointed out that he would be arrested for breaching the ban.

Lilley confirmed that he wanted the ban and was ordered to pay the fine and £125 costs at a rate of £5 per week, deducted from benefits.
