There’s a bit of good news and some not-so good news in the local music scene this week.

And as the good news is pretty good indeed, I reckon I’ll leave that until the last and start with the less-than-good.

Eoin Molyneux, one of the more prolific singer songwriters and entertainers currently playing around the island, has announced he is to hang up his guitar and call time on his live solo gigs.

In a pretty open and honest post on his Facebook page, Eoin admitted that his relentless live performance is getting in the way of any idea of normality and he needs to get some semblance of a life.

Eoin said that he started playing solo shows on the back of taking part in some of the Riffs open mic nights at Quids Inn on a Sunday night around two years ago and that he found gigging as a pretty effective coping mechanism following the passing of his beloved grandmother.

These soon turned into performing mammoth three-hour sets over many a Friday, Saturday and Sunday night which, unsurprisingly, takes its toll after a while.

His statement read: ’Over the past two years, I’ve got to do all the wonderful things I dreamt growing up.

’Played on Port Erin Beach as the sun set, played in a new venue, meet some incredible musicians, released an EP, played on the radio, both live and as tracks, got in the newspapers. It’s all been a crazy ride.’

Eoin still intends to perform with his band A Third Above, as well as at the occasional open mic again, so its not all bad. His last gig will take place on December 17 at Quids Inn, so there’s still a few chances to catch him before he finally jacks it in.

Elsewhere, though, the good news continues to roll in for indie surf rockers Voodoo Bandits.

Following the recent radio airplay on BBC Radio One’s Introducing programme, the group have since heard their record ’I’m A Loser’ being giving a couple of airings on BBC Six Music, by DJ Amy Lamé and indie champion Steve Lamacq’s drive time show.

The video to ’I’m a Loser’ can be seen on YouTube.

And if that wasn’t cool enough, local 50s throwback punks Mad Daddy heard that none other that the legendary Iggy Pop is to feature their latest single, ’Ride With Me’, on his own BBC Six Music show ’Iggy Confidential’ tomorrow night (Friday), from 7pm.

All-in-all, that’s not a bad way for a band to secure their first ever national radio debut. Have a look at the amazing video accompanying ’Ride With Me’ on YouTube.
