Entries are now open for both the summer’s major agricultural shows and, for the first time, the Royal Manx Agricultural Society has set up online entries for anyone wanting to bring their horses or livestock to compete.

Society secretary, Carol Kennaugh, said: ’We are pleased to announce that we are now accepting entries for this year’s show on our website, a first for the Royal Manx Agricultural Society.

’The 2021 prize list (schedule) is also available to download.

’We would like to thank Callum Staley from CJS Websites for his work on the new online entry system.

’Although online entries are now preferred, the downloadable entry forms are also available on our website if you wish to post your entries.’

Hard copies of the prize list will also be available.

If you were not an exhibitor in 2019 and would like to receive a copy, please email the secretary to request one, [email protected] or call 801850.

Following last year’s enforced break because of the coronavirus pandemic, the show will take place on Friday, August 13 and Saturday 14 at its usual home of Knockaloe in Patrick.

Carol said: ’There have been some adaptations made to the 2021 schedule because of the ongoing restrictions around the pandemic, most notably that judges will be local experts rather than invited from the UK.’

The Southern Show is moving to its new venue at Orrisdale Farm this year.

Entry forms and prize lists are now going out to all of the 2019 exhibitors.

Show secretary Sarah Comish said: ’If you are expecting an entry form and do not receive yours by the end of next week, please contact [email protected] or 494497.

They are also up on the website www.southernshow.org.

’Don’t forget that we need any trophies won in 2019 returned to the secretary before June 30 in good clean condition and engraved.’

l In next week’s Food and Farming page, we’ll be at Orrisdale Farm to see how the Kermode family are getting on with preparations to host the show for the first time.
