The Mobile Library will get a cheque of £250 from Port St Mary Commissioners.

The donation follows an appeal for financial contribution from the librarian in charge, who explained the library’s kerbside service reaches more than 90 people a month in their homes, sheltered and residential accommodation.

The library also offers after school classes, craft activities and events for children. Also it delivers books for schools.

Commissioner Laurence Vaughan-Williams said: ’I’m against it, not in principle, but with the backdrop of putting up the rates we need to be very, very careful about how we spend rate payers’ money.’

Chairman Alan Grace said: ’This is for the ratepayers.’

Michelle Haywood pointed out the Mobile Library’s collaboration with schools saves funds.

’They take books to schools, it has taken away from them having to buy books they would only use for a short time when they are doing special topics, they do not have to buy books.’

She proposed they donate £250, and was seconded by Alec Merchant.
