Funeral arrangements have been announced for Douglas North MHK John Wannenburgh following his death earlier this month.
Mr Wannenburgh’s funeral will take place at St Mary’s Church in Douglas on Thursday, August 20.
The service will be followed by a private cremation.
All are welcome to attend the funeral, while the family has requested no flowers. Instead, those wishing to make a donation are invited to give to a charity of their choosing.
Tributes flooded in for Mr Wannenburgh after news of his death was made public earlier this.
He was elected as an independent Member of the House of Keys for Douglas North at the 2021 general election.
He was also chair of the Manx Utilities Authority, a position he had held since 2023.
During his time in Tynwald, Mr Wannenburgh held a number of parliamentary and public-body roles.
He served as a political member of the Department of Home Affairs from 2021 and joined the Department of Environment, Food and Agriculture in 2025.
Before becoming chair of Manx Utilities, he served as chair of the Isle of Man Office of Fair Trading between 2021 and 2023.
Mr Wannenburgh was also a member of the Economic Policy Review Committee and an alternate member of the Isle of Man delegation to the British-Irish Parliamentary Assembly.
Outside politics, he had a long involvement in community and charitable causes.
He was the owner and operator of the Isle of Man Sporting and Dining Club, which raised money for local charities and other causes, and was a trustee of the Friends of Chernobyl’s Children.
Mr Wannenburgh was married and had three sons.
His brother, Walter Wannenburgh KC, is the Isle of Man’s Attorney General and the government’s senior legal adviser.
