The Department of Infrastructure (DOI) has completed its 2026 summer surface treatment programme, with work carried out on 29 roads across the island.

The programme, which comprised micro surfacing and encapsulated surface dressing, was completed towards the end of July.

In total, 22 roads were treated using micro surfacing, covering approximately 49,000 square metres of carriageway. A further seven roads received encapsulated surface dressing, covering more than 113,000 square metres.

Some of the roads worked on included the Andreas to St Judes Road, Colby main road, Watterson Lane in Willaston, St Ninian’s Road in Douglas, Somerset Road in Douglas, Spring Valley Road and Springfield Avenue in Douglas, Andreas village, Andreas Road in Ramsey, Creg Ny Baa back road and the Ramsey to Laxey coast road.

The works mark the fifth and final year of the DOI’s current surface treatment contract, which represents a significant investment in the island’s road network.

Specialist contractor Kiely Bros. Ltd carried out the works, supported by local sub-contractors.

The programme included preparatory carriageway repairs, verge preparation, surface treatment, adjustments to ironworks where required and reinstatement of road markings.

The DOI also thanked local authorities for adjusting their hedge-cutting programmes to align with the roadworks.

A spokesperson said: ‘The department is grateful to the local authorities that adjusted their hedge-cutting programmes, helping to achieve the best possible outcome.

‘Work has begun on developing a further multi-year contract for surface treatments. The department will, in due course, seek tenders through the Isle of Man Government procurement portal.

‘Subject to procurement and programme approval, the new contract is intended to enable further surface treatment works to be delivered next summer.’
