An Isle of Man Creamery tanker driver has completed a 102-mile walk around the island’s dairy farms to raise money for Alder Hey Children’s Hospital, where his granddaughter has received treatment.
Paul Turner, who usually spends his days collecting milk from farms around the island, swapped his tanker for walking boots as he set out to visit every dairy farm supplying Isle of Man Creamery.
The challenge began on August 4, when Paul left the creamery at 7am to tackle the southern route. After more than 15 hours on the road, he reached the 15th and final farm of the day, Southampton Farm, where he was cheered on by the Collister family.
The challenge continued on August 8 when Paul tackled the northern route, completing the first part of the route after 17 hours, covering almost 80km, visiting 10 farms and recording around 100,000 steps.
Paul then travelled to the UK to collect his granddaughter Imogen, who was receiving treatment at Alder Hey, before returning to the island for the final stage of his challenge.
On August 15, Paul visited the final farm, Begoade Moar in Baldrine, before making his way back to the creamery.
Waiting for him on the final stretch was Imogen, who had finished her treatment the previous day and joined her grandad for the final part of the walk, walking hand in hand with him back to the creamery.
Paul's fundraising challenge has so far raised more than £3,600 for Alder Hey.
A spokesperson from Isle of Man Creamery commented: ‘It’s a fantastic achievement and it’s so emotional to see him walking hand in hand with Imogen back to the creamery.
‘Well done, Paul, we are all so proud of you.’
