The Trustees of Foxdale Heritage are celebrating the 140th anniversary of the opening of Foxdale Railway Station by hosting a special open day at the former station building on Sunday, August 16.

The building, which now serves as the Foxdale Heritage Centre, will be open from 11am until 4pm, with members of the public invited to visit and learn more about the station's history and its role in the development of the village.

Foxdale Railway Station officially opened on August 16, 1886, primarily to transport lead ore from the Foxdale Mines.

Freight trains carried the ore via St John's to Ramsey for export, while passenger services enabled people to travel to Peel, Douglas and Port Erin through the junction at St John's.

Next month’s open day is free to attend and everyone is welcome.
