An inquest has opened in the death of an inmate at Isle of Man Prison.

Taylor Jake Murphy was found dead in cell eight at the Jurby jail at just before 8am on the morning of September 18.

The unemployed 20-year-old, of High View Road, Douglas, was found in his bed in the single occupancy cell in which he had been locked the previous evening.

CCTV cameras confirmed that no one had entered his cell overnight.

Coroner of inquests James Brooks said investigations into Mr Murphy’s death are continuing. He adjourned the inquest pending further inquiries and said the body of the deceased could be released for funeral arrangements to be made.

Mr Murphy’s mother attended the opening of the inquest. Mr Brooks expressed his sincere condolences to her for the loss of her son.
