Unemployment, already at a 12-year low, is continuing to fall.

Latest job market statistics show that the number registered unemployed dropped by 33 in June to stand at 407 - the lowest level since September 2004.

It’s 229 fewer than the same month last year.

During the month, 121 signed on to the register and 154 signed off.

The unemployment rate remains at 1 per cent, the same as in May.

International Labour Organisation estimates, which include those not registered an unemployed but still looking for work, put 852 people in that category, giving an unemployment rate of 2 per cent.

Of the 407 registered unemployed, 261 are men and 146 are women.

During June, 889 vacancies were notified at the Job Centre. At the end of the month, 579 remained. Of these, 73% (422) were full time positions and 27% (157) were part time.

Sectors of the economy with the highest levels of unemployment are construction, catering and some retail distribution.

Those with the highest numbers of vacancies are e-gaming and medical and health services.
