A leading local singer will join one of the island’s best-known brass bands for a grand night of pomp, ceremony and classical music.

Stage star and singer Simon Fletcher will join the combined talents of the Manx Concert Brass and the Manx National Youth Band for the Last Night of the Proms which, after the recent period of uncertainty, will take place later this autumn.

The annual night of fun-filled revelry and celebratory flag-waving will feature stirring renditions of classical standards, such as ’Land of Hope and Glory’, ’Jerusalem’, Elgar’s ’Pomp and Circumstance’ and a fantasia of sea songs and, after the lack of live music and entertainment, the night promises to have a heightened sense of celebration.

The Last Night of the Proms takes place at the Gaiety Theatre on Saturday, September 26.

Tickets are £17.50 for adults, £15 for concessions and £5 for under 16s and are available from the Welcome Centre, the Villa Marina box office, on 600555 or online from the website www.villagaiety.com
