The race to become the Isle of Man’s next Chief Minister is now a two-horse contest between newly elected MHK Kirrie Jenkins and current Treasury Minister Chris Thomas.

It has been confirmed to Tynwald members that two candidates have been proposed under the Standing Orders.

Arbory, Castletown and Malew MHK Kirrie Jenkins has been proposed by Glenfaba and Peel MHK Katryna Baptist and seconded by Ayre and Michael MHK Stephen Broad.

The other candidate is current Treasury Minister Chris Thomas, who has been proposed by Ramsey MHK Rob Cowell and seconded by Middle MHK Jane Poole-Wilson.

It sets up a two-way contest when the House of Keys meets next Tuesday, October 13, to choose the island’s next Chief Minister.

The House of Keys is due to meet at 10am next Tuesday, October 13, to elect the next Chief Minister. Each candidate will be able to make an opening speech and answer questions from MHKs before a ballot if more than one person is nominated.

A candidate needs the support of at least 13 of the 24 MHKs to secure the nomination.
