The number of people registered as unemployed in the Isle of Man rose in August, increasing both month-on-month and year-on-year.

A total of 324 people were registered as unemployed at the end of the month, nine more than the 315 recorded in July and 47 more than in August last year.

Despite the increase, the registered unemployment rate remained unchanged at 0.7%.

A separate estimate using the wider International Labour Organisation (ILO) measure puts the number of people unemployed and looking for work at 769, equivalent to a rate of 1.7%.

Unlike the registered unemployment figure, the ILO estimate also takes account of people who are not registered as unemployed but may still be looking for work.

The latest Labour Market Report, published by Statistics Isle of Man, also shows 520 vacancies remained at the Job Centre in August - 44 fewer than in July.

Of those, 345 - 66% - were full-time positions, while 175 - 34% - were part-time.

Medical and health services had the highest number of vacancies, with 136 positions available, followed by catering and entertainment with 87.

Public administration had 36 vacancies, while banking and retail distribution each had 34.

The figures show 198 men were registered as unemployed in August, compared with 185 in the same month last year.

There were 126 women registered as unemployed, up from 92 in August 2025.

The largest number of registered unemployed people - 111 - was classified under miscellaneous services, followed by catering and entertainment with 23 and skilled construction with 18.

The report also shows 24 people were classed as long-term unemployed in August.

Statistics Isle of Man defines long-term unemployed as those who have been registered as unemployed for 12 months or longer.
