A ‘kind and caring’ Ramsey man has been found to have died following an accidental collision at Barregarrow crossroads.

The full inquest into the death of Gareth Underwood, 37, was held at Douglas Courthouse and heard how his Honda motorcycle collided with a red Jeep while he was travelling home from work on Wednesday, April 15.

Gareth, who was travelling to Ramsey via Barregarrow and Kirk Michael because the Mountain Road was closed, suffered multiple rib fractures and lung lacerations. He was later pronounced dead at Noble’s Hospital’s Emergency Department.

In an emotional tribute, Gareth’s mother, Ruth, described him as ‘hardworking, kind and caring’ in a prepared statement read aloud during the hearing by Coroner James Brooks.

A keen motorcyclist, Gareth had been delighted to purchase his ‘dream bike’, a Honda, Ruth said, adding that he regularly checked his motorcycle and equipment to ensure they were safe.

She added that he ‘always saw the good in people’ and would be missed by ‘us and anyone who had the pleasure of knowing him’.

Recording a verdict of accidental death, Mr Brooks told the family: ‘I’m sure this is a loss that is still with you, and you have my condolences.’
