Police have issued a road safety reminder to motorcyclists ahead of this year’s Manx Grand Prix and Classic TT events.

The Roads Policing Unit is encouraging visitors travelling to the island, as well as local riders, to make sure they are fit to ride and take extra care on the island’s roads.

Officers are reminding motorcyclists that other road users may be less accustomed to looking out for bikes, and are advising riders to adopt a defensive approach.

Police have also urged riders to only overtake when they have sufficient space, visibility and time to do so.

Road conditions can change since a rider’s previous journey, with potholes, cracks and changes to junction layouts among the hazards to be aware of. Cold spells and frost can also result in icy patches, particularly during the morning.

Motorcyclists are being advised to check that their visor is clean, clear and free from scratches before setting off, while also making sure their eyesight has not deteriorated and that they are not affected by any medical condition which could impact their ability to ride safely.

Police are also reminding riders to check their clothing and helmets, ensuring that equipment is in good condition and suitable for use. Worn, damaged or outdated protective equipment may need to be replaced.

The 2026 Manx Grand Prix will run from Sunday, August 16 to Monday, August 24, while the classic TT runs from Wednesday, August 19 to Friday, August 28.

Roads Policing Unit officers will be out and about during the period to help keep road users safe across the island.
