Police have provided an update after a two-vehicle crash at the Quarterbridge caused significant disruption during yesterday’s evening rush hour.

Emergency services were called to the collision at approximately 4.40pm on Wednesday, July 29.

The incident happened as many people were beginning their journeys home from Douglas, with motorists reporting heavy traffic on routes out of the town.

Police closed the road and redirected traffic while officers and other emergency services dealt with the collision.

The road remained shut for a prolonged period after fuel leaked from one of the vehicles involved.

In a statement, the Isle of Man Constabulary said: ‘At approximately 16:40hrs on Wednesday 29th July 2026, Police, alongside partner agencies, attended a road traffic collision involving two vehicles at the Quarterbridge, Douglas.

‘The road was closed for a protracted period due to fuel leaking from one of the vehicles, to allow the roadway to be cleared, and for vehicle recovery to take place.’

The closure led to lengthy queues on roads leaving Douglas, with many motorists having to seek alternative routes home.

Traffic remained heavy in the area while the road was cleared and the vehicles were recovered.

No information has been released about the circumstances surrounding the collision or whether anybody was injured.
