Garff Commissioners continue to note information in relation to a proposed new sewage treatment works in Laxey.

The board simply considered additional information given by the Manx Wildlife Trust about the removal of invasive plant species in the proposed area during its monthly meeting this month.

The protection of lizards in the area was also considered.

The local authority has delayed its response to the new plans submitted by Manx Utilities due to the current pandemic restrictions. It has requested that the public should be given the opportunity to voice concerns in person rather than virtually.

The plans look to build a regional treatment plant at Breeze Hill in Laxey on the chalet site. If planners approve the application (20/00082/B), it will be the first treatment works in Laxey.

Sewage is currently held in a tank, which was built in 1912, and is pumped out to sea.

A number of residents have shown opposition to the proposal. They are concerned about tankers moving in the village, location and odour issues. Signs were recently erected by protestors who are against the plans.
