Arbory Castletown and Malew MHK Jason Moorhouse has criticised a response given to him in Tynwald by Infrastructure Minister Tim Baker.

Mr Moorhouse had asked Mr Baker if he would publish a report by Sustrans on the road safety of children outside Arbory School.

He said Mr Baker’s response was ’concerning’. Mr Baker said that the report is a commercial proposal to carry out work on behalf of the DoI and ’clearly marked as commercially sensitive and therefore not for disclosure to third parties’.

Mr Moorhouse said that he was advised to put in a Freedom of Information request for the report and seek a ruling from the Information Commissioner on the validity of classifying the report as commercially sensitive.

He added: ’Given Tynwald is the highest court in the land, I worry that the Minister’s action is potentially bringing the authority of Tynwald into question. It is producing an inadequate answer for a Tynwald member on something as fundamental as the safety of children in his constituency.’
