Tim Baker MHK has been appointed as the political member at the Department of Infrastructure responsible for highway services.

Ayre and Michael MHK Mr Baker takes on the role in addition to being the DoI’s member for ports, and retains his position as a political member for the Department of the Environment, Food and Agriculture

He is also chairman of planning and chairman of Isle of Man Meats.

The role of member of highways has been vacant since July when Kate Lord- Brennan MLC stepped down from her position in the DoI.

Announcing Mr Baker’s appointment, Infrastructure Minister Ray Harmer said: ’I’m delighted Tim has agreed to take on this additional delegation, and I look forward to him providing the highways division with the conscientious political support required.’

Mr Baker said: ’Highway services play a key role in all our everyday lives and I look forward to providing strategic oversight to such a busy division, using my experience in the private sector and insight I have gained through three years with the department.

’I have met many of the staff already, who are clearly passionate about the work they do, and look forward to making a positive impact.’

Highways services have come under fire in recent months, particularly over delays with the Douglas Promenade scheme.
