A Ramsey driver has been fined £400 for using a mobile phone while driving.

Benjamin Charles Grainger, 23, of Close Oard, sent a postal admission to the offence, and also had his licence endorsed with four points.

The court heard the defendant was driving a Transit van on the A2 main road, between Laxey and Baldrine, on June 5.

Police coming in the opposite direction, saw Grainger using his phone, so they stopped him.

He was issued with fixed penalty notice, but he didn’t pay it and completed a court hearing request form.

In written mitigation, Grainger said he’d been swiping his phone, to play music, and hadn’t realised it was an offence.

He must also pay £50 prosecution costs and was given two months to pay.
