Ramsey Swing Bridge has reopened to vehicular traffic following a programme of repair and maintenance works.

Paul Carey & Sons Ltd were taken on as principal contractors to carry out remedial work after issues were identified with the bridge's timber deck beneath the carriageway surface.

The Department of Infrastructure also took the opportunity to carry out essential maintenance on the bridge's swing mechanism while the structure was closed.

Additional works included repairs to the road surface and the replacement of parts of the bridge's lighting system.

The bridge is an important heritage structure, having been built in 1892, long before motor vehicles became a common sight.

Work began on Monday August 3 and took just over three weeks to complete. The bridge reopened to vehicles on Tuesday, August 25.
