The sixth annual Port Erin Jazz Festival has ended on a high note.

Now in its sixth year, previous artists who have performed at the festival read like a who’s who of top UK jazz musicians.

The event opened at the Erin Arts Centre with an energetic performance from local artists The Blue Train Big Band who lit up the venue with their snazzy shirts and sharp show tunes.

Their storming set featured a beautiful arrangement of ‘Body and Soul’.

Friday's headliners were Brighton-based quartet Full Circle who gave a stunning performance of self-penned numbers spanning their four albums.

They bewitched a packed and appreciative audience with a set of tight and intense contemporary jazz, bringing the house down with an encore of Miles Davis 'Jean Pierre'.

On Saturday afternoon, 10 local ensembles, including Blue Vannin, Hot Toast, Mood Indigo and The Heinrich Manoeuvre entertained enthusiastic crowds for free at the Riddler bar, the Station and the Bay Hotel.

Organiser Jerry Carter said: ‘One festival goer commented that it was lovely to walk from venue to venue with live music seemingly coming from everywhere, crowds were dancing in the street outside the Bay Hotel which only goes to show how much fun you can have when the roads are open.’

On Saturday evening local quartet The Vanguards supported regular visitor and saxophone suprema, Beccy Rork for a lively set including a nice arrangement of ‘On Green Dolphin Street.

Desmarais, a London-based piano trio, headlined the evening, thrilling the audience with their stunning musicianship and wonderful arrangements of jazz standards.

They finally departed after two encores with the crowd still shouting for more.

The festival organisers would like to thank sponsors Ramsey Crookall and Bushy's for their generous and invaluable support.
