Port Erin Commissioners says infrastructure issues around campervans need addressing before the village can be fully accessible to visitors.

Under its by-laws, the local authority can introduce measures to deal with abandoned vehicles to protect residents – but these don’t cover motorhomes specifically.

Chair Hannah Mackenzie commented: ‘There is actually no real issue with motorhomes. What the by-laws are there for is to protect the authority and the residents of that authority from people abandoning vehicles.

‘There is conflict between our own authority’s policies and with the DoI and its policies.’

The commissioners have also recently put in place a ‘Vision Port Erin Strategy’, which involves looking at legislation including footpaths and open spaces to make the village a better place to live.
