A popular Douglas business has brought its vintage clothing range back after taking a break to rethink the future of its ‘clobber’ side.

Renegade Cuts & Clobber, on Bucks Road, temporarily stepped back from selling vintage clothing at the beginning of the year after what owner Josh Moore described as its most successful year to date in 2025.

Now, after almost six months of reduced activity, the family-run business is preparing to bring the clothing side back with a renewed focus, including pop-ups, community events and a greater presence online.

The vintage range was quietly reintroduced over the summer around TT week, with the business recently holding its first pop-up of the year at Kerroo Brewery in Port Erin.

Josh said the break had given him and his mum Diane, who runs the barbering side of the business alongside him, an opportunity to step back and consider how the clothing side could develop.

He said rising costs, the difficulty of sourcing quality stock and the changing vintage market had all contributed to the decision.

Online platforms such as eBay, Depop and Vinted have also transformed the way people buy and sell second-hand clothing.

Josh said the popular ‘Kilo Sales’ had helped bring people through the door, but the business did not want discounted clothing to become the main reason customers visited.

‘Renegade has always been more than just low prices,’ he said.

‘We believe wholeheartedly in the quality, character and value of the pieces we source. Offering something that’s a little bit different from other shops on the high street.’

The business, which combines barbering with vintage fashion under one roof, is marking its fifth year in business.

It also took part in pop-ups and events around the island, while hosting collaborations and special events in the shop.

Josh said that momentum ultimately made taking a step back at the beginning of 2026 necessary.

‘It was an intentional pause and, following the momentum of 2025, it felt like a necessary one,’ he said.

During the quieter period, Josh and Diane also concentrated on developing the barbering side of the business and restructuring the shop.

Diane completed her Level 3 qualifications at the London School of Barbering in Manchester earlier this year and is now regularly fully booked.

Josh said the experience had also allowed him to reassess his own work-life balance while continuing to develop his barbering skills.

With Clobber now back, the business plans to become more active online, including listing clothing on Vinted, while an updated Renegade website is also being developed.

More pop-ups and community events are planned before Christmas.

Josh said the break had given the business an opportunity to ‘listen, learn’ and rediscover the creativity behind Renegade.

‘The past half a year may have been quieter than usual, but it has never been inactive,’ he said.

‘Behind the scenes, Renegade has been reflecting, evolving and preparing for what’s coming next.

‘Now, it is time to get back to work.’
