A drink-driver who was more than double the limit has been fined £1,700 and banned from the roads for three years.
Fifty-six-year-old Elaine Woodhouse was reported by a member of the public who followed her, then blocked her in.
Deputy High Bailiff Rachael Braidwood also ordered the defendant to take an extended test, and to complete a drink-driving rehabilitation course after her ban.
Prosecuting advocate Harry Bellis told the court that Woodhouse was driving a Volkswagen Polo on the Peel Coast Road, heading towards Peel on September 13, at midday.
A witness driving behind her, described the Polo as swerving and nearly involved in a collision.
They followed Woodhouse, describing her driving as of a poor standard, to a housing estate at Oak Road, then called 999.
They said they blocked the Polo in at Close Beg, and approached Woodhouse and took her keys, though Woodhouse denied this happened.
The witness described her as ‘volatile’ and said they asked her how much she’d had to drink, and she’d replied: ‘Not enough.’
Police arrived and Woodhouse blew below the legal limit, but officers believed this was an error, taking into account her demeanour.
At police headquarters, a further test produced a reading of 86, more than twice the limit of 35.
Woodhouse, of Lhergydhoo, Peel, said she’d been drinking wine the previous evening until the early hours.
She claimed there was nothing wrong with her driving and she’d swerved because a rabbit ran out.
Woodhouse claimed the witness hadn’t approached her, spoke to her, or taken the keys.
The Deputy High Bailiff told her: ‘You must have been drinking well into the early hours to have been so far over the limit at midday the next day.’
Woodhouse will pay the fine, plus £125 prosecution costs, at a rate of £15 per week.
