Isle of Man Orienteering Klubb is running a '7 Kingdoms’ event at Archallagan Forest this Saturday.

This is a timed event in which participants have to navigate to different orienteering control flag locations marked on their map, whilst choosing the best route to get to each.

Once at the control flag they must pin-punch their scorecard to prove that they have visited it.

When finished their chosen course, participants hand in their scorecard at the finish desk and have their event time recorded.

Participants can choose to walk or run and all must return to the finish by 1pm at the latest, even if they do not complete their course. Suitable footwear and clothing must be worn for weather and underfoot conditions, and a compass is optional to assist with navigation.

There are three courses to choose from of varying distances and number of control flags to visit. Any participants undertaking the long championship course who expect to take over 120 minutes should select an early start time.

This family-friendly activity is suitable for people of all ages who can take part as individuals, families or groups of friends. Children must be under the supervision of an adult.

Guidance on what to do can be given by Isle of Man Orienteering Klubb members beforehand to anyone new to this activity.

Registration plus the start/finish is from the enlarged southern carpark on the Eairy Kelly road from 9.30-10.20am, with individual start times from 9.30-10.30.

The cost is adults £4, youth under-18 £1.50 and family (two adults and children under-18) £8 max, although additional adults pay full fee). Cash only.

The presentation to winners of different categories will be made towards the end of the event.
