Newly-crowned Commonwealth Games bronze medallist and Isle of Man athlete David Mullarkey has been selected to represent Great Britain at the European Athletics Championships next month.

This year’s event will take place at Alexander Stadium in Birmingham between Monday, August 10 and Sunday, August 16.

The 26-year-old long distance runner is currently in Glasgow where he is competing in the 2026 Commonwealth Games.

He got his Games programme underway on Tuesday evening when he clinched an historic bronze in the men’s 10,000 metre race at Scotstoun Stadium - full story on back page.

Already a GB international, Mullarkey made his senior debut for Great Britain at last year’s 2025 European Athletics Team Championships in Madrid, finishing eighth in the men’s 5,000m.

He will line up in Birmingham next month alongside Joe Wigfield and Scott Beattie, the latter of which also competed in the 10km race in Glasgow on Tuesday and finished fifth.
