NOT for the first time, entries for the Julie Brew Memorial Walk on Sunday surpassed those in the Western 10 road race.
A total field of 84 tackled the walk, eight more than last year, over the same course as the run - setting off from Market Square, Peel heading to Patrick, then St John’s, Ballacraine, Ballig, Switchback and Knocksharry back to Peel.
The winner was Rachael Greham of Manx Harriers in a time of 1hr 35min 12sec from women’s End to End Walk winner Sophie Watterson-Jones of the host club in 1:40.42.
Next was leading male Lewis Brew in 1:45.07, who was third in the run (named after his late grandfather Gordy) in 2025.
Greham was third overall in last year’s walk when 49 seconds slower in wet/damp conditions.
Now in the over-65 age group, Marie Jackson showed her undoubted class when finishing fourth overall in front of James Quirk and the ever-present Jayne Farquhar, Peel man Quirk having also completed six laps of the Backyard course (25 miles) as a warm-up on Friday.
The walk raised funds for Motiv8 Addiction Services.
