Isle of Man cyclist Matthew Bostock has been selected to represent Great Britain at next week’s UCI Track World Championships in Shanghai, China.

The Glen Vine rider is one of 20 named in the GB squad for the prestigious championships, which take place from Wednesday, October 14 to Sunday, October 18.

Bocky has been selected in the men’s endurance squad alongside Henry Hobbs, Noah Hobbs, Mark Stewart, Ethan Vernon and Ollie Wood.

The selection caps an outstanding year for the Manxman, who has enjoyed considerable success on both the track and road during 2026.

The 29-year-old began the year by winning a bronze medal as part of the Great Britain men’s team pursuit squad at the UEC Track Elite European Championships in Turkey, before going on to enjoy a highly successful Lloyds National Track Championships in Manchester.

Bostock claimed two British titles at the meeting in February, winning both the men’s scratch race and elimination race.

He also represented Great Britain at the UCI Track World Cup in Hong Kong in April, where he secured a bronze medal, while later in the summer he switched his attention to road racing and was crowned British National Circuit Champion.

But the undoubted highlight of his season came when he represented the Isle of Man in style at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow.

Bostock produced a superb performance in the men’s 40km points race to claim the gold medal, becoming the first Manx athlete to win Commonwealth Games gold since Mark Cavendish in 2006.

Now his attention turns back to the Great Britain cycling team and the World Championships, which will be the first track qualification event on the road to the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.

British Cycling performance director Stephen Park said the championships represented an important stage in the programme’s development ahead of LA 2028.

'As the first track qualification event for the LA 2028 Olympic Games, this event is a crucial stepping stone on our path towards the biggest event in our calendar.'

Park also highlighted the strength and depth of the current programme, with more than half of the selected riders having previously come through the Great Britain Cycling Team’s Performance Pathway.

Nine of the 20 riders will be representing Great Britain at the World Championships for either the first or second time.

'It demonstrates both the current strength of our programme and the incredible depth of talent pushing through for the future – it really is an incredibly exciting time.'

The championships will feature 22 world titles across the men’s and women’s competitions, with the programme including Olympic disciplines such as the team pursuit, Madison, omnium, sprint, team sprint and keirin, as well as individual pursuit, points, scratch and elimination races.

The event will be staged at the Shanghai Velodrome from next Wednesday to Sunday.

The championships will be shown live across BBC iPlayer and BBC Two, with coverage beginning on Wednesday

BBC iPlayer coverage is scheduled from 11.20am to 1.40pm on Wednesday, 9.50am to 1.55pm on Thursday and 9.50am to 2.05pm on Friday.

Saturday’s coverage will be on iPlayer from 10.20am to 2.05pm and BBC Two from 10.15am to 2.15pm, while Sunday’s final day will be shown on BBC Two from 6.30am to 10.30am.
