Glen Vine’s Matthew Bostock will go for bronze in Friday evening’s Commonwealth Games 4,000m individual pursuit finals after finishing third quickest in qualifying.

The Manxman clocked a time of 4 minutes 4.700 seconds in his heat with New Zealand’s Thomas Sexton.

He was only half a second down on Australia’s Conor Leahy who will battle it out for gold with compatriot Oliver Bleddyn tonight.

In turn, the recently turned 29 year old was 1.5s faster than James Moriarty who he will contest the medal race with later on today (Friday) around 6.15pm.

Bostock’s partner Megan Barker helped Wales secure bronze last night in the women’s 4,000m team pursuit and he admitted he is keen to level up the score!

He said: ‘I would like to get a medal so that she doesn't have one up on me!

‘But seriously, I'm really proud of her, and obviously medals are never guaranteed.

‘Whether I come third or fourth, it's just about doing my best.

‘I know it sounds really cheesy, but you've just got to be in it to win it really.

‘I’m just pleased I can be there or thereabouts, and even if it doesn't work out, I'm not far off.’

Bostock’s team-mate Ben Swift makes his Glasgow tonight in the elimination race which gets under way at 7.23pm.
