Second-tier sides Douglas Athletic and Gymns football clubs are set to merge ahead of the 2026-27 season.

The news comes on the eve of the new campaign which fires into life next week (see page 40).

A joint statement said: 'DAFC and Gymns are delighted to announce that, subject to final approval from the Isle of Man FA, our two clubs will be merging to create an exciting new future together.

'This partnership brings together two proud clubs with strong histories, shared values, and a common vision for the future of football in the island.

'By joining forces, we will be able to provide enhanced opportunities for players of all ages, improved facilities, greater volunteer support and a stronger pathway from junior football through to senior football.

'The merger will see us benefit from excellent facilities at Tromode, while creating a sustainable and ambitious club structure that supports participation, development, and enjoyment of the game at every level.

'For our junior players and families, we want to reassure you that youth football remains at the heart of our plans.

'This is not simply one club moving to another location. It is a genuine partnership, bringing together the best of both organisations to build something even stronger for current and future generations of players.

‘There is much to look forward to in the coming months, including the unveiling of a new club identity, crest, and playing kit that will proudly represent the heritage of both clubs.

'We are incredibly excited about this next chapter and look forward to building a successful future together.'
