Douglas and District Football Club’s dream start in their debut season in the Canada Life Women’s League continued on Sunday afternoon after defeating Rushen United 6-2 at Noble’s Park.

The newcomers have now secured their third win of the season, moving onto the same number of points as Corinthians in the table with nine.

D&D fielded a side that consisted of a number of players that have come through its youth ranks that included six 16-year-olds, one 17-year-year and a 20-year-old.

The southerners opened up a two-goal lead courtesy of a Lucy Kerr brace, before Evie Anderson started the come back for D&D just before the half-hour mark before Ameila Griffiths netted the equaliser on the stroke of half-time.

Despite playing up the slope in the second half, Liv Davies (2) and Lucy Dunn (2) secured the points for the Douglas side.

Douglas Royal maintained pole position in the table with a 13-2 win over Onchan at Ballafletcher.

Rebecca Cole led the way with a four-goal haul, Ariana Roberts (2), Sarah O’Reilly, Ellie Warren, Gemma Kirkham, Zoe Hawley, Caitlyn Smith and Kayleigh Georgeson also netted for the Ballafletcher side.

Poppy Gerrard scored both consolation goals for Onchan.

The remaining match involving Union Mills and Peel was scratched after Mills couldn’t field a team.

A full round-up will appear in this week's edition of the Manx Independent, on sale Thursday morning.
