Ramsey’s new road sweeper has a name, and it’s a bit of a classic.
The town’s commissioners launched a competition asking residents to come up with a name for the hardworking machine, and after receiving a flurry of funny and creative suggestions, they have finally made their choice.
Drum roll, please… it’s Sweep Caroline!
The winning name was suggested by three different people, proving that great minds clearly sweep alike.
However, there could only be one winner of the £50 town voucher, with the prize going to Gerry Cartwright, whose entry arrived first.
Matty Livesey and Alison Clark also suggested the winning name and will receive prizes too.
Mrs Wendy Bruchal, Lead Member for Works and Development, said: ‘It was wonderful to see so many creative suggestions, which made it really difficult to choose a favourite!’
Ramsey Town Commissioners thanked everyone who entered the competition and helped make it such a success.
Now, whenever Sweep Caroline hits the streets, residents can imagine the classic Neil Diamond song getting a rather dusty new twist.
Sweet Caroline, ba ba ba… good times never seemed so clean!
