The Isle of Man will go to the polls on Thursday, September 24, to elect 24 Members of the House of Keys for the next five-year term.
Each of the Island’s 12 constituencies will elect two MHKs, with eight candidates standing in Douglas Central.
Here is a look at the candidates hoping to secure one of the two seats in the constituency.
* Sharon Lee Bridgens - Change
Sharon Bridgens is standing for the new Change party, which is campaigning for one government under one legal authority, opposition to all wind farm projects and the replacement of Manx Care.
* Ann Corlett - Independent
Ann Corlett is one of Douglas Central's sitting MHKs, having first been elected in 2016. She says experience, determination and a willingness to tackle difficult challenges will be important in uncertain times, with her campaign centred on ensuring islanders remain at the heart of decision-making.
* George Hargreaves - Transform Isle of Man
George Hargreaves is standing for Transform Isle of Man. He is the festival director of the Isle of Man International Film Festival and is making his bid as part of the new political movement.
* Andrea Krüger - Independent
Andrea Krüger, an independent candidate, is a chartered architect and runs a flying school in the island. She has also campaigned for improved parking around Douglas, particularly following the development of Westmoreland Village. Her priorities are the economy, housing and health, and she says urgent action is needed to reverse what she sees as a steady decline over the past two decades.
* Creena Mason - Transform Isle of Man
Creena Mason is also standing for Transform Isle of Man, making Douglas Central one of the constituencies where the party is fielding multiple candidates.
* Peter Shimmin - Independent
Peter Shimmin is standing as an independent and is contesting his first General Election. He recently left his role as an implementation officer with Public Health Isle of Man and is the son of former MHK John Shimmin, who represented the area for two decades.
His priorities include tackling the cost of living, supporting young people and families, and rebuilding trust in the Public Service.
* Chris Thomas - Independent
Chris Thomas, the sitting Treasury Minister and one of Douglas Central's MHKs, is seeking election for a fifth time. First elected at a by-election in 2013, he has highlighted increasing incomes and enabling saving, creating a smaller and smarter government, improving off-Island transport, housing and healthcare.
* Devon Watson - Manx Labour Party
Devon Watson is standing for the Manx Labour Party. A self-employed archaeologist and leader of Douglas City Council, he has put affordable housing, reliable healthcare and reducing the cost of living at the centre of his campaign.
