The Isle of Man will go to the polls on Thursday, September 24, to elect 24 Members of the House of Keys for the next five-year term.
Each of the Island’s 12 constituencies will elect two MHKs, with five candidates standing in Douglas East.
Here is a look at the candidates hoping to secure one of the two seats in the constituency.
* Clare Barber - Independent
Clare Barber has represented Douglas East since 2016 and is standing for a fourth time. A registered nurse, she says her priorities are economic stability, health and education, and national security, particularly food, water and energy security. She has also highlighted housing and access to healthcare, drawing on her decade representing constituents.
* Joney Faragher - Manx Labour Party
Joney Faragher, leader of the Manx Labour Party, is seeking a second term after first being elected in 2021. She says she is proud of the work carried out during her first term but believes there is more to do. Her priorities include supporting families, helping young people stay on the Island, housing and accessibility, and health and social care.
* Andrew Forster - Change
Andrew Forster is standing for the new Change party. Its policies include reforming government by abolishing the Council of Ministers and unelected MLCs, changes to healthcare, controlled immigration and increasing the supply of affordable homes for local people.
The party also supports measures to strengthen the economy, changes to education and greater support for older people.
Change has also pledged to abandon Net Zero policies, oppose onshore and offshore wind farms and pursue what it describes as secure and affordable energy.
* Dave Mackey - Independent
David Mackey is a taxi driver and tour guide making his first election bid. He says his work gives him a direct insight into the concerns of people living in Douglas, particularly around the cost of living, roads and public services. His priorities include growing the economy, the proposed Mooir Vannin wind farm and improving connectivity.
* Andy Saunders - Independent
Andrew Saunders, owner of Quids Inn and a member of the Licensed Victuallers Association, is also standing for the first time. He says the island has been 'losing its way' and wants decisions to be judged on whether they improve life for Manx residents. His priorities are supporting young families, helping small Manx businesses and improving health and social care.
