The chief financial officer of Manx Telecom, who is currently facing criminal charges, has been allowed to vary his bail conditions so he can live in the UK.
Junaid Danyal Bakhshi, who is 50 and previously lived in Port St Mary, has denied an allegation that he was concerned in bringing cannabis worth £196 from Amsterdam to the Isle of Man on August 8.
Mr Bakhshi is suspended from work, though the criminal investigation is unrelated to his job, and his advocate, Louise Cooil, said he wanted to live at the family home in Wokingham, Berkshire.
For the prosecution, Barry Swain raised no specific objection, pointing out the defendant had no convictions.
After hearing evidence from Mr Bakhshi’s wife that she was willing to stand a £5,000 surety, the court bailed him to Ellerton Close, Wokingham. He is also subject to a £500 recognisance, he must surrender his passport and he is not allowed to apply for another one. He reappears before the court on October 3 for a pre-trial review.
